Well, after reading some of the comments on this book on the Blue Bloods LJ community, I was a little apprehensive and worried that this would be a down point in the series. Well, not so for me. I suppose I have been treating this series pretty unfairly. I see it as...how do you call it? Light entertainment? It is, isn't it? A more straight forward and colloquial way would be to call it a 'no brainer series'. Don't get me wrong though. I enjoy it, I do. It's just that it does not (as of now) yet have the ability to move me, to strike some deeper part of my feelings. But I really enjoy it. The myth, the legends that Melissa de la Cruz has woven into the basis of this series thrill me to no end.
In fact, I'm ready for the next book in this series, but unfortunately it's only coming on the 1st of September this year.
Horrifyingly, when I was reading this yesterday, I realized that I had forgotten much of the plot and story and major happenings in the previous books. But no matter. It was easy enough to follow anyway. Even though some pretty major things happened in this book (D getting killed off, B revealed as the daughter of Lucifer and presumable Allegra, [The plot thickens!] much of the Conclave massacred, etc) I still think of it as a lead up to the next book, perhaps because we are not shown the full devastation caused by all that, and instead we are shown and reminded of the love triangle that consists of Mimi, Jack and Schuyler. The secret chapter too! Well, with that we should be reassured that that isn't the end of this triangle. Watch out, Mimi!
I'm fascinated by how Bliss came about, though. How on earth did Gabrielle and Lucifer have a kid? Wasn't Gabrielle Bonded with Michael? And isn't she an Uncorrupted, so how did she end up going so far with Lucifer, the Rebel Prince who is the cause of all things bad? And why did she start screaming after Bliss visited her? Isn't her Bliss her own daughter too?
Actually one part that I dislike would be the part where Lawrence says that Schuyler would be saviour of them all (or something to that effect) and Bliss would be the destruction of them all. Can't they all stop being so biased? Bliss didn't do anything to deserve that. I hope Melissa de la Cruz shows some of her stronger sides in the rest of the series. They are both daughters of Gabrielle, after all.
Another thing that fascinates me is Jack and Mimi's relationship. Are they going to make it through? Or is Schuyler the end of them?
We will see. And hopefully, Melissa de la Cruz does not destroy all the hard work till now with a badly thought out/written ending/sequel.
